Musty smell to carpets

Scenario 

Mrs Pickering of Alwoodley called to ask if we could help her. She had two young children - one still a baby and the second a toddler. They were due to move into a new house whose previous occupiers had let dogs roam freely around the property. The house smelt ‘doggy’ and they didn’t really want to replace all the carpets in the property just yet but didn’t feel comfortable exposing their children to who knows what.

Problems with cheap carpet cleaning

Scenario 

Mrs C of Moor Allerton called the office to ask for advice.  She had recently had her carpets cleaned by an independent cleaner.  After a couple of days, when the carpet had eventually dried, she noticed brown stains had developed in various parts of the carpet.  She called the cleaner who returned and said he would clean it again.   She said it was obvious that as he was re-cleaning the stains were not moving.  Eventually he gave up and told her it must be a fault with the carpet.  She asked us if this could be true and if so what could she do.
